From the recording Still Moving

Lyrics

Dr. Shrinkwrap was headed downtown.

Stretch Monkey would follow him down.

When they got there, there was no one around.

So, they went downstairs to the bar.

Dr. Shrinkwrap was a family man.

Stretch Monkey was not.

But they could see things from the other one’s hand.

Dealt from the bottom or top.

Monkey told the doctor that he had to leave soon.

Got an early call down at the clinic.

Aw relax, said the good doctor S.

He was always a bit of a cynic.

Dr. Shrinkwrap and Stretch Monkey

A ne’er do well and a flunky.

Kept everything they owned in the back of their car.

And they didn’t even have a trunk key.

Stretch Monkey used to work down on Market Street

Every Monday through Sunday without warning

He was kicked upstairs by the bourgeois elite.

Their name in lights downstairs on the awning.

Dr. Shrinkwrap said he wasn’t enthralled.

With the way things were progressing

He didn’t like the way they slandered his name.

Said that silence was a blessing.

Stretch Monkey said he didn’t agree.

That’s how they make their paycheck.

Anway, it makes no difference to me.

if you’re in love with Salma Hayek

Dr. Shrinkwrap and Stretch Monkey

A ne’er do well and a flunky.

Kept everything they owned in the boot of their car.

And they didn’t even have a trunk key.

Where’s the good doctor S now is anyone’s guess.

Not seen in a week what a mess

He’d phoned his wife; said he was called away.

Gave no clues or no forwarding address.

Stretch gathered his wits and made a few calls.

But nothing came to fruition.

A few weeks later Dr. Shrinkwrap was found.

And not in the greatest condition.

Dr. Shrinkwrap and Stretch Monkey

A ne’er do well and a flunky.

Kept everything they owned in the back of their car.

And they still couldn’t find the trunk key.

He was face-up in a vat of wet cement.

Not too hard to leave a lasting impression.

Sorry, Stretch waived as he doffed his cap.

Guess that was the end of the session.

If there’s any meaning to the story

Any moral at all worth pursuing.

It’s just that pride always was his great downfall.

Getting shrink-wrapped his own undoing.
